Dave Buttery

Co-Director, Road Safety, Standards and Services - Department for Transport

David Buttery is Director for Road Safety, Standards and Services at the Department for Transport. He is responsible for policy relating to road safety, road haulage, traffic management and technology, dangerous goods, sponsorship of the Motoring Agencies, Traffic Commissioners and Government Car Service, and oversight of transport planning decisions. Prior to taking on this role in March 2020 he spent 2 years at BEIS as Deputy Director for Energy Security following almost 15 years working at the Department for Transport in a range of roles including HS2, Operation Stack, strategic roads and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles. David was awarded an OBE for services to transport in the 2018 New Year’s Honours.
