CAN’s Council Advertising Network generates income for local councils and other public sector bodies (including transport, jobs and tourism) from brand-safe advertising on their websites. By the time John-Paul co-founded CAN in 2014, he was well-qualified for this, having already developed digital commercial platforms in retail, education, health, and local government.
He established CAN’s Sponsorship and Advertising Sales service in 2019 to audit and sell opportunities for non-digital council assets including print publications.
JP believes that utilising programmatic advertising technology to deliver campaigns can also save public money long term by nudging citizens towards positive behaviour change. CAN’s Citizen Reach has over 300 successful examples, including recent work to tackle COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy.
