Tania Osborne is the Head of Health and Social Care Inspection at her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP). Tania achieved her masters in criminology at the University of Cambridge, is a registered emergency nurse practitioner and non-medical prescriber. She has worked within health & justice for most of her career, managing health services and working within the national health and justice team at the department of health.
In more recent years she has worked as a health commissioner within both public-health and health & justice. Tania has been an associate for the WHO improving prisons forum, which included collaboration with colleagues in Russia and The Netherlands. In 2015 Tania was part of a small team engaged on behalf of the Council of Europe to deliver training to health teams in prisons and high secure hospitals in Georgia.
In June 2018 Tania joined HMIP with responsibility for the health input into the national inspection program which includes detention in prisons, police custody, courts and immigration detention facilities. This role includes liaising with partners such as the Care quality commission, Health inspectorate Wales and the general pharmaceutics council who are involved in joint inspections.
